SCHOOL policies
Our school stresses constant communication with our parents to monitor each child's progress and development. It is our belief that a communicative relationship with our parents is an essential part of our children's success. We also place high priority on keeping our school family oriented. In doing so, we establish policies with our children and parents to be followed while your children are in the care of our program. By creating these policies, we grant each child the tools they need to be successful.

Our Parent Handbook can be downloaded for an extensive look at our policies. Below are a few important policies we abide by to protect and teach our students.

DISCIPLINE POLICY

We believe the most effective form of discipline is positive re-enforcement and praise when a child exhibits acceptable behavior, with the withholding of the same when a child’s behavior is unacceptable.
Based on our philosophy, discipline is utilized by adults to help children change their behavior by identifying for them what kinds of behavior are acceptable. Most importantly, we aspire to help the child differentiate between acceptable and unacceptable behavior, and to develop self-control and self-discipline.

TOILET TRAINING
Children admitted to the center who are not toilet trained should be working toward this goal. To benefit from our efforts, you must toilet train your child at home.
Children being toilet trained must wear pull-ups at all times. Part-time diapering, and part-time use of training pants, can be confusing to a child and delay the training process. Parents need to supply pull-ups, plus a couple of extra changes of clothing each day.

ILLNESS OR INJURY
In case of illness or injury, a child will be cared for temporarily by the Center. HGAA will render first aid treatment only. Small injuries are reported to the parents through the use of an accident report. If emergency medical treatment is necessary, the parents will be contacted. If parents are not available, the child will be taken to the hospital listed in the child’s file or the closest available facility. It is the responsibility of the parents to make sure the child’s emergency information remains current. An Emergency Medical Form will accompany the child to the medical facility.

MEDICATION
A parent/guardian must sign a release form allowing medication to be administered at school. This form must be signed for both prescription and nonprescription medication as follows:
Prescription Drugs – The label must indicate the child’s name, the name of physician, prescription number and date, the name of the medication, dosage, and frequency. Most medication schedules can be administered.
Nonprescription Drugs – Must be in the original container and labeled with the child’s name and instructions for administration including the times and amounts for dosage (Nonprescription drugs will not be administered without a doctor’s note).
